September 14, 2011 – INPREE Attends President Obama’s Visit to NC State University
Institute for Nonprofits Director Dr. Mary Tschirhart represented the Institute for Nonprofits (INPREE) at President Obama’s visit to NC State University to pitch the American Jobs Act on Wednesday, September 14 at Reynolds Coliseum. Presenting to a packed house, Obama outlined his jobs proposal which included plans to create jobs and facilitate tax relief for workers and small businesses in America.
The proposal could also impact nonprofits, Dr. Tschirhart commented. “It is important for nonprofits to understand how legislation will affect them. The American Jobs Act has important implications for the role of nonprofits in the economy; currently nonprofit organizations employ roughly 8% of the nation’s workforce.”
Obama’s proposal was especially relevant to the NC State student population. Brittney Cofield-Poole, doctoral student and Institute for Nonprofits Project Coordinator, remarked on Obama’s visit: “I appreciate that he took the time to bring his platform to our university. To me it illustrates that he understands that this American Jobs Act has implications for our futures. We are the individuals who will be the recipients of the potential benefits or the consequences of this overwhelmingly important economic decision.”
