News and Events for Students
The University of Texas at Austin and Dell are searching for student social entrepreneurs to dream up ingenious ideas to change the world.
College students worldwide are invited to enter the 2010 Dell Social Innovation Competition for a chance to win $50,000 to turn their ideas into a new business or nonprofit with a mission to change lives for the better.
The deadline to enter is March 1, 2010. Students can submit their ideas online at http://www.dellsocialinnovationcompetition.com.
Along with students, citizens worldwide are invited to view, comment on, vote for and discuss the ideas in the online community forum.
The RGK Center for Philanthropy & Community Service in the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin introduced the Social Innovation Competition in 2006, awarding more than $200,000 in prizes to student social entrepreneurs. The RGK Center builds knowledge about nonprofit organizations, philanthropy and volunteerism, and prepares students and practitioners to make effective contributions to their communities.

Elon Innovation Challenge
Elon University is holding a creativity competition for all college students in North Carolina in November.
The 2009 Elon Innovation Challenge, held in conjunction with Stanford University's Global Innovation Tournament, is a fast-paced competition that will challenge student teams to solve a common, world problem in about eight days, creating as much value as possible. Teams must then convey their results in a short video posted to YouTube. The mystery problem will be revealed on Nov. 4 and submissions will be due Nov. 13.
In addition to competing for the top three prizes, participating teams will be awarded experiential prizes. Form a team with your friends and register to compete.
Judges will select all but one prize. The audience will pick a special prize - The Audience Favorite! Bring your friends to increase your chances of winning the audience prize.
You have until Nov. 13 at noon (EST) to complete your challenge and create a video of three minutes or less. Note that production quality of the videos will not be a judging criterion – it’s the substance
that counts.
Awards will be made to a registered 501c3 charity of the team's choice:
1st Place - $400
2nd Place - $200
3rd Place - $100
Other prizes are networking opportunities such as:
