The Institute for Nonprofits is a community where ideas, resources, and support are devoted to strengthening the capacity of nonprofit and social sector organizations in NC and beyond through research, education and engagement.
To achieve its mission, The Institute for Nonprofits promotes engaged citizenship and exceptional leadership by enabling nonprofit and social sector leaders to:
- Align mission, methods, and resources
- Earn the public trust
- Balance individual interest and the common good
- Capitalize on opportunities associated with diversity
- Move beyond charity to systemic change
The Institute benefits from the expertise of leaders from around campus and in the community. Their support and encouragement enhances our efforts to promote engaged citizenship and exceptional leadership across North Carolina and beyond.
Social sector organizations are prepared to meet the grand challenges of our communities.
The Institute for Nonprofits has its roots in the Nonprofit Initiative begun in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2002. Community engagement was the defining spirit at our founding and continues to inspire our integration of research, education and engagement activities.
