Motion-sensitive cameras (hereafter, “camtraps”) are a popular tool in wildlife ecology, and The Nature Conservancy’s NC chapter is using them to as a tool that provides an enhanced understanding of the many acres of land that we manage. In addition, we are partnering with solar developers around the state to assess (via camtrap) various practices that can be incorporated on solar farms to make them more friendly for wildlife. Assistance is needed out of the Durham, NC office to run the camtrap program, including some or all of the following:
- Track camtrap deployments
- Upload and review images in eMammal software
- Perform data manipulation and preliminary analysis
- Assist with camtrap field work in NC
- Maintain our camtrap blog with postings and images/videos
- Develop other communication materials based on the project
The TNC NC office is located in the American Tobacco Campus in Durham, NC, and free parking would be provided. This is an unpaid internship, but can be used towards college credit for an internship or independent study. Please apply by submitting a cover letter and resume to Liz Kalies: firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, please describe your availability during the spring 2019 semester; ideally, this person would spend 1-2 days/week in the Durham office.
